7 Simple Social Media Concepts to Drive Results

In a recent SCORE LIVE webinar, “Why it Pays to be Likeable- 7 Simple Social Media Concepts to Drive Results,” Dave Kerpen of Likeable Local shared tips from his book “Likeable Social Media” on how to drive results for your business using these online platforms.

On the webinar, Kerpen shared with the audience seven social media tips that can help improve your business and made it very clear that they key to utilizing social media for your business is to spend time. “You have to spend one thing: time. Someone is going to have to spend time if you are going to do social media well.” When it comes to engaging in successful social media practices, you have to be willing to spend the needed time in order to reach your customers.

Below are the seven tips Kerpen recommends for how to reach your audience while spending your time effectively, including a quote he used to help expand on the concept of each:

1. Listen

“When people talk, listen completely. Most people never listen.”- Ernest Hemingway

One of the most important things to remember about social media is that it is social. Engage with your customers and listen to their concerns.

2. Be Responsive

“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.” – Charles R. Swindoll

It’s important to not only listen to your customers concerns but always apologize, solve and say thank you during the appropriate times.

3. Tell, Don’t Sell

“Story telling is the most powerful way to put ideas into the world today.”- Robert M. Brown

Every brand has many stories to tell. Share yours and watch your social media engagement grow.

4. Be Transparent

“As a small business person, you have no greater leverage than the truth.”- John G. Whittier

People respond to the truth, use it as leverage and maintain transparency with your consumers.

5. Be Authentic

“I had no idea that being your authentic self could make me as rich as I’ve become. If I had, I’d have done it a lot earlier.”- Oprah Winfrey

It’s important to be yourself whether you are online, offline, public or private. People really respond to authentic businesses and individuals.

6. Be a Team

“Individuals play the game, but the teams beat the odds.”- SEAL Team Playing

Incorporate teambuilding projects. Work hard and play hard together.

7. Be Grateful

“I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought, and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.”- GK Chesterton

Show gratitude for those that support your business in social media circles. And remember that building your business through social media takes time and effort. Be grateful for where you are now, but continue to work to grow your business even more.

Incorporating these tips into your social practices is a great way to provide customer satisfaction and engagement which leads to results.
