Most small businesses do some type of email marketing (68% according to a report by Pitney Bowes). Most small businesses are engaged in some use of social media (75% have a company page on a social networking site – Social Media Today). But the real power comes in the smart integration of these two communications tactics.
Good content is the magnet and the glue. Good, relevant, engaging content attracts customers and prospects to read on, click through, and go the next step in working with your business. You likely spend quite a bit of time and energy creating email newsletters with interesting articles, polls, stories and even videos. But wouldn’t you like to get even more reach and more interest with that same content?
By posting interesting content nuggets and links through your social media channels you can allow this content to spread beyond your email lists. Customers, fans and friends can pass on this information to their networks. And these links are actually stronger since they come as an independent referral rather than a perceived “marketing message” from you.
