Starting: Don’t Waste My Time

Are You Ready?

There are so many people out there with entrepreneurial ambitions or at least it seems like there are. Whether they’ve been inspired by all the hype in Hollywood or the media, they want to somehow participate in the next big IPO. With LinkedIn’s recent IPO and Facebook reaching astronomical $$$ valuations, it’s hard to sit back and watch those around us getting richer and richer.

In my book, there is nothing wrong with this. It’s the American way at work. Whatever your motivation, it all needs to start with you. This leads me to what I hate the most- laziness. People come to me all the time with half-baked ideas and they want me to help them turn it into the next multi-million dollar startup. The catch is that they don’t want to do any of the leg-work to get there. Recently, a person reached out to me- let’s call her Becky- to talk about her entrepreneurial desires, which seemed sincere over email.  When we talked, she didn’t even have a clue what she wanted to do. She just wanted to be an entrepreneur.  She wanted me to give her an idea and guide her through the process. Folks- if this is you- and I hope it isn’t, don’t waste my time or yours.

Starting a business is hard work. That’s why we have so many resources devoted to helping you make it happen. But, you have be willing invest time, energy and money to do it. Don’t be a “Becky”.
