Success: Entrepreneurs Find Opportunity in Change

America in Transition

Sometimes you hear an idea that just makes sense. That’s how I felt when I read about Moving Forward Transition Advisors.

Herman Trend Alert, which spotlighted this company last week, notes that the 1990s saw huge growth in advisors of all types—from business advisors like consultants to personal advisors like life coaches and nutritionists.
Moving Forward expands on this idea. Founders Lori Sharton and Kathleen Buckley were both getting divorced and were sharing ideas for resources to help with their transition. They didn’t know where else to turn for help.

After their divorces, other friends in need started turning to them asking for referrals to lawyers, realtors and other professionals to help with their own transitions. Sharton and Buckley started thinking that they could help others, not only with the transition of divorce, but with other transitions as well.

So they launched Moving Forward, which helps with transitions ranging from layoffs and divorces, to the death of a spouse or moving a parent to a nursing facility, to moms re-entering the work force and empty nesters ready to downsize.

Sharton has a social work background so they can provide emotional counseling as well. “When friends or family may not identify with your situation, support your choices for change, or are too busy or far away to lend a hand, we can step in,” they say on their website. Already, they are getting lots of business from attorneys and CPAs and are even working on a manual that will help others become transition advisors.

Who couldn’t use a transition advisor these days? With our world and our economy in constant flux, many people are undergoing change and need help negotiating it. Sharton and Buckley are true entrepreneurs, seeing change not as something scary, but as opportunity.
